Governance structure proposal

CHRIST THE KING – GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE – NEXT STEPS

Proposal to transition to a single board governance structure

In December of 2012 Christ the King made the decision to move away from the Abdon Model of church governance (Church Council and multiple boards) and adopted a Policy Based Governance Model. That work which began in September of 2011, took fifteen months to complete, the finished model consisting of three boards, a Board of Directors, Board of Elders and CDC Board of Education. Six years later we believe that it is time for us to consider moving to the next phase of our governance structure, a single board governance model. What’s the purpose in doing this? What do we lose? What do we gain? Oh no, not more change!!!!!!!!!

Here is the bottom line: the proposed change is really being mandated by two things: First, to better align and coordinate our ministries efforts under the banner of “One Mission, One Ministry”. This allows us to bring all of our ministries and ministry leaders together under one umbrella if you will, at the same table, focused on the same mission and vision. Secondly, to dramatically increase the level of service and care (spiritual, emotional, physical) we provide to our members with the goal of connecting with everyone by increasing the number of people serving in this ministry. Today this challenge falls on just a handful of Deacons, Elders and staff and we are only able to visit and care for those with the most critical needs, those who are homebound or in some kind of care facility.

  • Increase the level of support and oversight for our Pastors.
  • This board would consist of nine elected members of the board and ex-officio members that includes the Senior Pastor, Executive Director, Director of the Early Learning Center (ELC), Minister of Children, Youth and Family Outreach and the Treasurer.
